...and we're back
Boldport was initially founded around creating FPGA design tools that significantly enhance productivity by maintaining robust project structures and management capabilities. This did not work out as planned and I decided to shut down the site towards the end of 2011. While I still strongly believe in the concepts and vision that motivated 'boldport flow' (the first product of boldport), I now know both that the execution was faulty, and of the harsh realities of the EDA business. Though I might publicly elaborate on what I've learned in the future, I'm happy to discuss this in private, so make contact.
Since the demise of 'boldport flow' I've had a permanent job for a while and completed some interesting consulting projects through Boldport Limited, which stayed on as a fully operating company. In the past year, I've had the pleasure of doing what I love -- hardware design. Recently in my spare time I've been working on a project that's been on my mind for a long time -- a different kind of PCB design tool that's version control friendly, and uses simple, open data formats. I call it 'PCBmodE', as in 'modification' and 'modern'. I'll discuss the motivation and details in future posts.
I'll populate this blog with postings from the old boldport blog with time.
